About Us

UNLOCK THE MIND MINISTRIES offers programing for returning citizens and their families. We are holistic, addressing the spiritual, emotional, social and economic needs of those impacted by incarceration.

Our organization is designed to educate and transition individuals struggling with addictions and other life-controlling self-defeating patterns of behaviors, into productive members of society through the power of Jesus Christ.

We feel that sobriety should be a by-product of a person’s spiritual well-being. It is through a relationship with Jesus Christ that one learns how to live a life of freedom, not only form drugs and alcohol, but from any hurts, habits and hang-ups.

We further commit to productively working to prevent the incarceration of at-risk youth and returning citizens by intervention and networking with other faith-base organizations, community leaders, Business leaders, judicial authorities, state and local agencies, educators, mentors, and volunteers that act in the best interest of those served. It takes a village.

What is Unlock the Mind Ministries and How We Help?

Unlock the Mind Ministries (DBA: Unlock the Mind Prison Ministries) is often referred to as UTMM.  It is a comprehensive program assisting individuals in behavioral improvement.

UTMM is a ministry of hope reconciling individuals to God, families, and society. We believe all human beings are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27) and that we are most complete, comfortable, and productive when operating our daily lives in harmony with our Creator and Savior.

Why the head and key silhouette with bubble shadow?

We use the head and key silhouette with a shadow bubble as our logo because it fitly illustrates change reflected in (Romans 12:1-2). The mind goes through a God-oriented process where darkness in the mind is replaced by the word of God which is light to create a “new person” with a better understanding of God and self (Psalms 119:130). In a spiritual fashion, humans are “born again” and live drastically new lives. Our goal is to provide the path to a better life for individuals, families, and society through the establishment and maintenance of a close relationship with God.

(NLBM) New Life Behavior Ministries

NLBM researches, produces, develops and distributes life-changing curriculum and tools to facilitate the reconciliation process. Not only is the curriculum popular behind bars and in substance abuse recovery, it is also used in community outreach efforts and Bible School classes. Therefore, the purpose of the NLBM Curriculum is to present the possibilities that a person – regardless of past behavior and current conditions – can with time, purpose and diligence, clear his mind of a failure-oriented paradigm and replace it with a productive one. We recruit and train instructors in the best use of this material. Training for instructors to conduct One-on-one Mentoring, facilitate CASA-Christians Against Substance Abuse classes, and New Life Behavior courses is all part of the New Life Behavior Curriculum. The training is provided by Certified Regional Directors throughout the United States on an ongoing bases and also at our Annual National Jail/Prison Ministry Workshops conducted in different states each year, in person or online at nlbm.org.

The NLB Curriculum was first designed for classroom use. Later, the lessons were used as a correspondence course. Even later, individual lessons were given to students/counselors as reading material for specific concerns. We believe the material can be used effectively in congregational settings, prisons, military bases, treatment facilities, certain schools, university Bible centers and other institutions. It is helpful to both prevent and correct behavioral problems.

NLB Curriculum assumes the existence of God as He is described in the Bible. We do not feel it is fair to ask an individual to create his own God, while simultaneously going through one or more significant life changes/challenges. If one can create his own God, he can also destroy it.  Instead, we provide the God of the Bible for the student to argue with, fight against, and, hopefully, find faith in and follow.

NLB curriculum is available “free” to missionaries overseas through our separate sister organization – New Life Behavior International (www.nlbi.net).  In the USA, users make a small donation for a licensing fee to produce each course.

History

Our roots extend back to 1982 when the late William “Bill” Netterville of the Antioch Church of Christ in Woodville, MS began a ministry to prisoners at Louisiana State Prison in Angola, Louisiana.

Richard Felix, Sr. assumed the work in 1995 and has continued ministering to the incarcerated and their families for over 24 years.

In May of 2018 Richard Felix and his wife Prissy saw the tremendous need to offer aftercare services to our returning citizens upon their release from prison and UTMPM was founded as a 501(c)(3), nonprofit, public charity.

Today it is our goal to continue the mission of transforming lives by unlocking minds

'Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you'
